  N-JOI THIS - UNTOUCHABLES - TOUGH TOONZ (TT01) DOWNLOAD
This is one of the best darkcore tunes ever made. Goes down a storm whenever it's played (not often) and always gets a good reception when played out on the Monday Madness radio show. Its got a little happy hardcore vibe creeping in but maintains non-cheese status with ease. Cheeky Chad Jackson "let the drummer get wicked" vocal, massive bass and a lovely timestretched beat in places - top tune.

ON THE EDGE - VICE SQUAD - PIMP PLASTIC (PIMP001) DOWNLOAD
I know only a couple of you will know this one so its kind of a kick to put it in the archive to showcase it to most of ya. The Vice Squad are Mickey Finn, Darren J and the tunes were produced by Bay-B-Kane, with that talent behind suprising the EP slipped into obscurity. Not suprising though that the talent combined to make a tip top tune. Lovely rolling B-line and mad screaming riff followed by a mooooody breakdown.

RUFFER - RED ALERT + SLAMMER - SLAMMIN' (RAR006) DOWNLOAD
Red Alert and Mike Slammer are better known kick starting the happy hardcore scene with their unique style of sampling and coming back with something as good if not better than the original (a feat not matched by many). Ruff was one of their more original tunes with a more authentic 92 hardcore feel (not happy). Ruffer is the 93 darkcore remix and bloody dark tune for the kings of happy.

HOLD BACK - COOL HAND FLEX- LIQUID WAX (HN9)
DOWNLOAD
Cool Hand Flex, unsung hero of the underground. This guy has released x-amount of top hardcore tuneage but never seems to get the big ups he deserves maybe cause he kept releasing stuff on his own labels rather than turning to one of the bigger boys. Whiplash, Dick Turpin EP, On the Strenght, the Oddball releases are just some of his other top tunes. The copy used to record the clip is a white on the Liquid Wax label but if your looking for it, was also released on the In Touch Label (INT002).

  WANT U NOW - SS+EQ REMIX - SUB BASE (SUBBASE25R) DOWNLOAD
Yes, yes - SS and EQ give this pretty average D'Cruze release the Formation treatment and show the Sub Base girlies how to make real hard tunes. Some choice timestreched beats in this one as well as some really dark and mean stabs which breakdown into a really menacing strings with more timestretched "want you now" vocals. It all evetually breaksdown into a slightly off key piano and then back to the mash up beats. Kind of a must have for a self-respecting record collection IMO.

PIPE - HEDGEHOG AFFAIR 5 - SOUND ENTITY (SENT1206) DOWNLOAD
The Hedgehog series started on Basement. Still Jack Smooth behind this one but released on the Sound Entity label. Both sides to this are well worth checking out - perhaps a more techno feel to this EP than darkcore Basement releases and a pretty chilled out intro to the Pipe, the tune I've chosen to feature. But wait for it, half way through the tune a totally menacing riff comes in which is pure teeth grinding nastiness.

  DRUMSTRUCK - N JOI - DECONSTRUCTION (74321154831) DOWNLOAD
Another one you probably don't know. Bit of a shock to find its by N-Joi of Andrenalin fame from 3 years ealier - yes it is the same N-Joi. Wicked dark b-line, spooky female vocal this is a real 93 darkside corker. Made all the better as somehow they persuaded Deconstruction to put it out. The rest of the Deconstruction crew must have wondered what the fuck this was when they heard it slipped in with their housey numbers.

  TERMINATE - FBD PROJECT - (BT002) DOWNLOAD
One of the all time classic darkcore tunes. FBD project cained out a couple of top 93 tunes including "The Core" which will definitely feature in the archive in future installments. I've had a couple of these in stock in the shop and they have all had the twirly pen effect on them. I reckon they must have penned all the releases before they sent them out. This one actually looks pretty shit but the flip looks quite cool. Anyone out their got a non-pen'ed copy to disprove my theory?

GET BUSY CREW - SCOTT & KEITH - REINFORCED (RIVET1241) DOWNLOAD
Bit of a lost 12" for the Reinforced label but still absolutely wicked just much overlooked. One of the labels only ventures into the darkcore sound but just as well they did. The audio featured is the B-sided Get Busy Crew, the Derranged mixes are well worth checking out making it a must buy piece of vinyl. Its worth pointing out that the Scott and Keith are Doc Scott and Keith Suckling (not Ray Keith).

  ELEVATE - ANDY C - RAM (RAM05) DOWNLOAD
What can you expect for the follow up from the genre definiing Valley of the Shadows team. More top darkcore that's what. "Dance till you hear the speakers blow" vocal starts the tune which then rolls into a deep b-line and some clever timestretched precussion. Unlike Valley of the Shadows this tune has ups and downs with mellow breakdowns between the drum and bass sections. More like the Touch if you know it (check out the first Darkcore section if you don't).
